FLASH OF GENIUS
This was a well done movie! The actors played their parts well. Greg Kinnear was great in his role as was Lauren Graham. It was a true story. I found it to be a bit sad in the courts outcome in the end for the Kearns family. But he got what he ultimately wanted...the recognition that Ford was in the wrong. In August 2008 I went to the Benjamin Franklin Museum in Philadelphia, PA and saw his actual invention on display in the museum along with his story. I would give this movie a B++. Go see it...it was very good.
SYNOPSIS:
Based on the true story of college professor and part-time inventor Robert Kearns' (Greg Kinnear) long battle with the U.S. automobile industry, Flash of Genius tells the tale of one man whose fight to receive recognition for his ingenuity would come at a heavy price. But this determined engineer refused to be silenced, and he took on the corporate titans in a battle that nobody thought he could win. The Kearns were a typical 1960s Detroit family, trying to live their version of the American Dream. Local university professor Bob married teacher Phyllis (Lauren Graham) and, by their mid-thirties, had six kids who brought them a hectic but satisfying Midwestern existence. When Bob invents a device that would eventually be used by every car in the world, the Kearns think they have struck gold. But their aspirations are dashed after the auto giants who embraced Bob's creation unceremoniously shunned the man who invented it. Ignored, threatened and then buried in years of litigation, Bob is haunted by what was done to his family and their future. He becomes a man obsessed with justice and the conviction that his life's work-or for that matter, anyone's work-be acknowledged by those who stood to benefit. And while paying the toll for refusing to compromise his dignity, this everyday David will try the unthinkable: to bring Goliath to his knees.

We went to the Walnut Street Theater to see this play. It was excellent! We saw it in NYC a few years ago and I loved it then also. The cast here in Philly was fantastic and did a wonderful job putting on quite a show.

SEX AND THE CITY
A FAREWELL TO ARMS 1932
My View:
Another afternoon at the Silver Screen showing of "A Farewell to Arms" starring Gary Cooper (Fredrick)and Helen Hayes (Catherine) filmed in 1932. Although this movie was filmed in WWI times you have to remember this movie was a love story between Fredrick and Catherine. Well done too! I was the youngest one in the afternoon matinee. I love these old movies. I had read this book but never seen the movie so it was a treat for me! I enjoyed the movie. With these older movies it's kind of funny to see how the technology of filming a movie has come such a long way since they were made. The movie was entertaining, I got wrapped up in the story line but just know that the book by Ernest Hermingway tells more.
Synopsis:
Make no mistake, this is a love story, not a war movie. It is a love story set in the midst of World War I and it takes place in Italy and Switzerland. Not only do the images set the scene for this film but the actors make a love story unfold in the midst of the terrible taking place. Helen Hayes is a stand out in her role as the nurse from Great Britain. Gary Cooper has never been more handsome and charming as an American Ambulance driver. Their romance and struggle to be together are poignant and convincing. Gary Cooper has a marvelous friendship with a doctor played by Adolphe Menjou and some touching scenes with a priest portrayed by Jack Larue. Time has been kind to this movie which goes beyond era and place and develops its characters and story well enough so that they transcend the 1932 style of making films and the WWI setting to shine in a classic movie for any age. This movie was directed by Frank Bozarge and it won a well deserved Academy Award for Best Cinematography.

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL
As for Spielberg himself, who knows? You'll notice echoes of many of his most famous movies in this one. But I doubt that's a sign that he's running out of creative energy". (by:Terry Hunter)

BABY MAMA
MY VIEW:
I Loved this movie! It was just FUNNY!! The acting was well done and I think that as a mother you can relate to alot of it from the "being pregnant" point. The Lamaze instructor was "wather" funny too! But Seriously which would you prefer? EVOO or PAM?It was filmed in Philadelphia just across the Delaware river from me in NJ. It got a thumbs up from me, I would say grab your girlfriend, leave the kids home and have a girl date...movie and lunch. I dare you NOT to laugh!!
SYNOPSIS:
Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey), a successful single businesswoman from Philadelphia, has put her career before her personal life. At the age of 37, she has finally decided to have a child on her own, but her plans change when she discovers she has only the slimmest chance of becoming pregnant. Also denied adoption, Kate gets a South Philly working girl, Angie Ostrowski (Amy Poehler), to become a surrogate mom.
When Angie becomes pregnant, Kate begins preparing for motherhood in her own typically driven fashion—until her surrogate shows up at her door with no place to live. Their conflicting personalities put them at odds as Kate learns first-hand about balancing motherhood and career by catering to Angie's childish needs. As if this weren't enough Kate also begins dating the local owner of a blended juice cafe.
What Kate doesn't know is that Angie is feigning the pregnancy and that in fact the in-vitro fertilization did not succeed. Hoping to ultimately run off with her payment, Angie begins to regret the lie but continually puts off confessing until getting an ultrasound wherein she discovers she is actually pregnant. Realizing the baby is her own (and her boyfriend's), Angie is forced to confess at her own baby shower. This unsurprisingly drives a wedge between the two women.
At the court hearing to definitively determine the maternity of the child, Angie makes an impassioned apology. The baby turns out to be Angie's. Meeting face to face after the proceedings, Angie's water breaks and Kate rushes her to the hospital. During Angie's delivery, Kate passes out. Upon waking she is told that she has become pregnant, the result of her relationship with her new beau.
Ultimately remaining friends, Angie and Kate raise their children together.

THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL
MY VIEW:
I enjoyed this movie. The acting was wonderful and the storyline was consistant. I read this book earlier and I also enjoy watching The Tudors on Showtime on the TV. I didn't find this to be only a chick flick but one that men enjoyed too. It's a historical drama type movie. I think I would have to give it a better rating than the critics gave it. I give it a B+ for a movie well done.
SYNOPSIS:
Two sisters, Anne and Mary Boleyn, are driven by their ambitious Father and Uncle to advance the family's power and status by courting the affections of the King of England. Leaving behind the simplicity of country life, the girls are thrust into the dangerous and thrilling world of court life--and what began as a bid to help their family develops into a ruthless rivalry between Anne and Mary for the love of the King. Initially, Mary wins King Henry's favor and becomes his mistress, bearing him two illegitimate children. But Anne, clever, conniving and fearless, edges aside both her sister and Henry's wife, Queen Katherine of Aragon, in her relentless pursuit of the King. Despite Mary's genuine feelings for Henry, her sister Anne has her sights set on the ultimate prize; Anne will not stop until she is Queen of England. As the Boleyn girls battle for the love of a King--one driven by ambition, the other by true affection--England is torn apart.

Oscar® winners George Clooney and Renée Zellweger match wits in Leatherheads, a quick-witted romantic comedy set against the backdrop of America's nascent pro-football league in 1925. Clooney plays Dodge Connolly, a charming, brash football hero who is determined to guide his team from bar brawls to packed stadiums. But after the players lose their sponsor and the entire league faces certain collapse, Dodge convinces a college football star to join his ragtag ranks. The captain hopes his latest move will help the struggling sport finally capture the country's attention. Welcome to the team Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski), America's favorite son. A golden-boy war hero who single-handedly forced multiple German soldiers to surrender in WWI, Carter has dashing good looks and unparalleled speed on the field. This new champ is almost too good to be true, and Lexie Littleton (Zellweger) aims to prove that's the case. A cub journalist playing in the big leagues, Lexie is a spitfire newswoman who suspects there are holes in Carter's war story. But while she digs, the two teammates start to become serious off-field rivals for her fickle affections. As the new game of pro-football becomes less like the freewheeling sport he knew and loved, Dodge must both fight to keep his guys together and to get the girl of his dreams. Finding that love and football have a surprisingly similar playbook, however, he has one maneuver he will save just for the fourth quarter... --© Universal Pictures

JUNO
MY VIEW: I found this movie to be a good movie but a bit "dorky" for lack of a better word. The youth could totally relate I'm sure. The 16 year old was a lot more mature for her age and handled her decisions pretty well. I think I would have cast different people to play some of the characters but over all it was a good movie.
SYNOPSIS: Sixteen year-old Juno MacGuff is the type of girl that beats to her own drummer, and doesn't really care what others may think of her. She learns that she's pregnant from a one-time sexual encounter with her best friend, Paulie Bleeker. Juno and Paulie like each other, but don't consider themselves to be exclusive boyfriend/girlfriend let alone be ready to be a family complete with child. Although she would rather not be pregnant, Juno is fairly pragmatic about her situation. Although there, Paulie really leaves all the decisions about the baby to Juno. Initially she decides that she will have an abortion, but that's something that she ultimately cannot go through with. So she decides to have the baby and give it up for adoption. The next step is to find prospective parents for the yet unborn child. In the Pennysaver ad section, Juno finds Mark and Vanessa Loring, a yuppie couple living in the suburbs. Juno likes the Lorings, and in some respects has found who looks to be a kindred spirit in Mark, with whom she shares a love of grunge music and horror films. Vanessa is a little more uptight and is the one in the relationship seemingly most eager to have a baby. On her own choosing, Juno enters into a closed rather than open adoption contract with the Lorings - meaning she will have no contact with the baby after she gives it up.....see the movie to find out what actually happen!!

THE ATONEMENT
MY VIEW: I personally thought the movie was well done. It was a sad movie. Keira Knightley(Cecilia) and James McAvoy(Robbie) were cast perfectly to the characters they played. There was an enduring love between them. He hung onto her love with letters she had sent while he was at war. She, who comes from such wealth ends up in a little flat in England. This has an "R" rating. There were some parts that were a bit gory when they showed wounded men in the hospital that just came from the war. There was language, again from soldiers, and there was a bit of sexual content between these two lead characters. I have to say as much as I read books, I liked the movie alot better than the book.
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: In 1935, 13-year-old fledgling writer Briony Tallis and her family live a life of wealth and privilege in their enormous mansion. On the warmest day of the year, the country estate takes on an unsettling hothouse atmosphere, stoking Briony's vivid imagination. Robbie Turner, the educated son of the family's housekeeper, carries a torch for Briony's headstrong older sister Cecilia. Cecilia, he hopes, has comparable feelings; all it will take is one spark for this relationship to combust. When it does, Briony -- who has a crush on Robbie -- is compelled to interfere, going so far as accusing Robbie of a crime he did not commit. Cecilia and Robbie declare their love for each other, but he is arrested -- and with Briony bearing false witness, the course of three lives is changed forever. Briony continues to seek forgiveness for her childhood misdeed. Through a terrible and courageous act of imagination, she finds the path to her uncertain atonement, and to an understanding of the power of enduring love.

THE BUCKET LIST
MY VIEW: First of all...IGNORE what the critic say about this movie. Once again I went to see a movie that the critcs gave a low score to and saying "don't waste your time or money on it". I thought Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman gave a really good performance along with Sean Hayes, who also played a part well done. I would say GO SEE THE MOVIE, IT'S NOT A CRUMMY MOVIE!!
Jack plays a man who has a LOT of money but no friends, family or love in his life. Morgan plays a hard working black man who wanted to be a History Professor but is a mechanic. He has family and love around him. Both men are in the hospital sharing a room. They become friends and they each learn from their doctor that due to the cancer they have, each only have a short time left to live. Morgan makes a "bucket list". Things he wants to do before he kicks the bucket. Jack finds the list and adds to it and with all his wealth he talks Mogan into getting away with him and fulfilling everything on the bucket list. Jack who plays a very rich man is all to happy to fund this adventure. Morgan teaches Jack how it feels to kiss the most beautiful girl in the world. (tissue was good here)
I thought the movie was emotional, funny and had deeper thought provoking moments in it than the critics gave it the credit for. Go See It!

P.S. I LOVE YOU
27 DRESSES
MY VIEW:
I absolutley loved this movie! Even though the critics give is a low score..what do they know. I thought it was funny. Katherine Heigl gave a great performance. It was a fun date with my daughters and then again with a friend.
SYNOPSIS:
Jane is idealistic, romantic and completely selfless--a perennial bridesmaid whose own happy ending is nowhere in sight. But when younger sister Tess captures the heart of Jane's boss--with whom she is secretly in love--Jane begins to reexamine her "always-a-bridesmaid..." lifestyle.
CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR

MY VIEW:
WOW! This was a very good movie. Denzel not only starred in this movie but he directed it also. Excellent acting, especially on the kids debut part.
SYNOPSIS:
A drama based on the true story of Melvin B. Tolson, a professor at Wiley College Texas. In 1935, he inspired students to form the school's first debate team, which went on to challenge Harvard in the national championship.

WICKED
On December 27, 2007 my wonderful husband and I celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary. He took me to New York city for a few days. We went to see this awesome play at the Gershwin Theater. It was fantastic. The acting was exquisite!
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
Okay, Okay, I DO HAVE AN OBSESSION AND A PASSION FOR THIS MOVIE!! I have seen it maybe 100 times now. I LOVE the soundtrack to the movie. I didn't think I would like this movie and avoided seeing it. A friend took me and assured me I would love it! I Did! I thought the acting was done very well. Such passion for eachother. There was a chemistry between the actors which made the movie believable. I never knew who Gerard Butler was before this...I now own almost every movie he was in.
Emmy Rossum played Christine
Patrick Wilson played Roul
Gerard Butler played The Phantom
This was a sad story of the life of the Phantom and his love for a girl he could never win.
I cried when I read the book and I cried when I saw this movie.
I think I would rank this as my favorite .....I give it a 10!
....now how can I meet this Gerard Butler guy?????....... LOL!! "Tsst!!"
